Making LOL - Overcoming Adversity With Grace + Humor

10 Christian Fight Songs

Okay, maybe the word Christian and fight should not go together since love is one of the main messages of Christianity. What I mean with fight here is not the punch-someone-in-the-face, get-into-trouble kind of fight, but the fight against fear, self-doubt, worry, anxiety and hopelessness when we face adversity in life.

When life knocks you down, you might be down for a while, but get back up and join the fight again. It is true what they say about what does not kill you makes you stronger. Once everything has settled down and you have passed the trial, you will see that it has made you a better person somehow.

In the meantime, I hope these upbeat, uplifting songs will inspire and encourage you to fight back while you are in the middle of your storm. Parts of the lyrics are here to inspire you to look up the songs and add it to your playlist.

1. Tell Your Heart to Beat Again by Danny Gokey

“Tell your heart to beat again
Close your eyes and breathe it in
Let the shadows fall away
Step into the light of grace
Yesterday’s a closing door
You don’t live there anymore
Say goodbye to where you’ve been
And tell your heart to beat again”

Your life has been shattered to pieces. Nothing is familiar anymore. After you spend time grieving your loss, it’s time to let it all go. Your heart has been bruised and numbed by the pain. You can’t change what had happened. You can’t keep reliving the past in your mind either. The only choice is to move forward. So, tell your heart to beat again and step into the future.

2. It’s Not Over Yet by For Kings & Country

“They are inside your head
You got a voice that says
You won’t get past this one
You won’t win your freedom

It’s like a constant war
And you want to settle that score
But you’re bruised and beaten
And you feel defeated

This goes out to the heaviest heart

Oh, to everyone who’s hit their limit
It’s not over yet
It’s not over ye-et
And even when you think you’re finished
It’s not over yet
It’s not over ye-et
Keep on fighting
Out of the dark
Into the light”

You will get through this dark time. This is just a season in your life. You might feel like you’ve been in the valley forever. But, keep charging ahead one day at a time. Focus on today – what can you do today to get better, to heal from the hurt? The pain will lessen little by little. Before you know it, you will see the end of the tunnel.

3. Unfinished by Mandisa

“But I picked myself back up
And I started telling me
No, my God’s not done
Making me a masterpiece
He’s still working on me

He started something good and I’m gonna believe it
He started something good and He’s gonna complete it
So I’ll celebrate the truth
His work in me ain’t through
I’m just unfinished”

The trials we experience in life are meant to polish us to become a better version of ourselves for His glory. Like a glassblower that puts the piece that he is working on into the fire over and over till he gets a beautiful, one-of-a-kind glass masterpiece, you are a masterpiece in the making in His hands. He is working on you – on your heart and mind. Don’t be discouraged by whatever trials you are experiencing. Believe that something good that will come out of it.

4. Hard Love by NEEDTOBREATHE

“Hold on tight a little longer
What don’t kill ya, makes ya stronger
Get back up, ’cause it’s a hard love
You can’t change without a fallout
It’s gon’ hurt, but don’t you slow down
Get back up, ’cause it’s a hard love”

Yes. It’s true. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. It might mess your mind for a bit (Okay, maybe a lot) for a while, but it DOES make you stronger. Hold on to Him and keep fighting the good fight. It’s His hard love.

5. Giants Fall by Francesca Battistelli

“Don’t you be afraid
Of giants in your way
With God you know that anything’s possible
So step into the fight
He’s right there by your side
The stones inside your hand might be small
But watch the giants fall”

God is with you in the fight. Whatever you are dealing with, even though it feels like you are alone, He is right there with you. He is fighting the battle for you. You might feel small, abandoned and forgotten. But, He has a greater plan for you – a plan to prosper you, not harm you. Like David who fought Goliath, under His care you will defeat your giants.

6. Sparrows by Jason Gray

“You can’t add a single day by worrying
You’ll worry your life away
Oh, don’t worry your life away
You can’t change a single thing by freaking out
It’s just going to close you in
Oh, don’t let the trouble win

You may feel alone
But you’re not on your own
If He can hold the world, He can hold this moment
Not a field or flower escapes His notice
Oh, even the sparrow knows
He holds tomorrow”

If worry about tomorrow grips your heart, trust in Him through this ordeal. He will make a way. He cares and provides for the flower in the field and the sparrows (the birds) in the sky. We are His sons and daughters. He is a good Father and He knows what our tomorrows hold. All our days have been written down in the book of life before we are a day old. So, stop worrying. It will do nothing but steal the only present you have. Today is all we have. The past is gone. Tomorrow is yet to come.

7. Fearless by Jasmine Murray

“Bring on the unknown
Lead me and I’ll go
Come set me free
God, I want to be

Fearless! (I-I, want to be)
Fearless! (I-I, want to be)

These mountains, these giants
Will fall at a single Word
In Your Name, in Your strength
I’m more than a conqueror”

Be fearless. Don’t fear the change and the unknown. He’ll be with you every step of the way and He won’t lead you ashtray.

8. Bulletproof by Citizen Way

“I used to live like I was under attack
Dodging arrows from my past
I had no hope for tomorrow
Felt so much pressure yes I thought I would crack
But now there’s no looking back
I’m moving forward ‘cuz I know
I got my armor now
No fear no doubt can shoot me down
I got my armor now
No fear no doubt gonna shoot me down
Now I’m bulletproof because of you”

Move forward into the future with your full armor on. You are bulletproof. You can tackle whatever life throws at you. No more fear and self-doubt. You are the sons and daughters of the highest King. You are here to thrive.

9. The Comeback by Danny Gokey

“After the heartache of wrong turns and sidetracks
Just when they think they’ve got you game set match
Here comes the comeback
Just cause you lay low got up slow unsteady
Don’t mean you blacked out or bought out you’re ready
Just when they think there’s nothing left running on empty
Here comes the comeback”

This is your time to rise up after the fire that you have gone through. You are putting the pieces of puzzles of your broken life back together. You are building a better tomorrow with new places to go and new friends to meet. This is your time to declare your comeback to the world.

10. Point to you by the Messengers

“I need a miracle
Some healing for my heart
I need a revelation
A brand new start
I want simplicity
Where I can rest
But I need a miracle to put my past to death

I know You want my heart
My bruises and my scars
I’m coming as I am
The only way I can
I can’t forget from where I’ve come
And what my heart’s been rescued from
Yeah when they ask me who
I owe my whole life to
I point to You”

You have gone through a lot this season. You have touched the deep sorrow in your heart and wonder if God cares at all about you. Why did He let the bad, hurtful things happened to you? Has He forsaken you in the desert? But, through it all, you have kept your faith in Him. You have a brand new start to build the life that you really want. All the bruises and scars just mean that you have lived a life worth telling. So, tell your story to the world and point to the One who has carried you through it all.

    • I have loved listening to her songs all along, but I just looked up the story behind it (now that you mention it). Love knowing the story behind these songs. My favorite one is the story behind Danny Gokey’s Tell Your Heart to Beat Again. It’s just so heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.
